Fourth of July 2009

Fourth of July... a bit late, I know.

I did what half of Austin did on USA's birthday, and watched the fireworks at Auditorium Shores with my lovely candy store co-workers.

The Sock Hop and Rare Magazine

About a week ago, I received this message in my flickr mail:

Hi Shelley!

My name is Tara. I work for Rare Magazine here in Austin. We are looking for photos to feature in our October issue and I found a few of yours from the Second Sunday Sock Hop that we'd like to add to our events calendar! Would you be interested in allowing one of them to be published? We'd give you editorial credit, of course!

Thanks!

Tara

I know it would probably only be a tiny cut-out, but maybe this could be my foot in the door?

p.s. I'm going to start posting in here more regularly... expect several more posts today alone.

Anyone know why my pictures get cut off in my blog layout and how to fix it?

'bout time

I've been a Daily Texan photog for three semesters, so I guess it's 'bout time I got one of these things...

This photo was taken on Valentine's Day at the White Ghost Shivers' Valentine's Day Massacre show at Mohawk. I work at a candy store on South Congress called Big Top Candy Shop with the mustached fellow in the background, and he's going to be the main subject of my photo story for Eli's J355 class.

As a side note for all those interested - Liz, Andrew, Jackie, and I are going to start a quesadilla van business since finding an adequately paying photography job post-graduation may prove difficult with the state of our current economy. Join us and together we will start a quesadilla van fleet!

As another side note - does anyone know how to save photos in Photoshop so they don't look so damn desaturated when you upload them to flickr? I have tried several things, but nothing seems to be working... bestow me with your knowledge!
